Weber Smokey Joe Silver… Can grill a whole chicken spatchcocked or a half-side of salmon. Economical use of charcoal. Quality build. Under $30.
I like to keep it simple.
BTW, if you're going charcoal, invest in a chimney starter.

Re: Stolen: Simms G3 Guide Stockingfoot Waders
Most credit cards have 90 day protection from theft. You said you have a VISA, I'd google and check to see if your Visa type has purchase protection. I bet it does. This is a benefit of your card. http://usa.visa.com/personal/cards/benefits/bft_purchase_security.html" onclick="window.open(this.href...

Re: Ice Reports 2013-2014
Silver up to 35' depths still have 3-4" clear ice, but it's melting fast. More people driving up to the launch and hanging out for bit than people actually fishing the lake. What are those people doing? I don't get it. Came prepared in case I met more weirdos, but met two other genial fishermen inst...

Re: Ice Reports 2013-2014
Just want to warn my fellow ice fishermen to be vigilant of suspicious individuals if fishing alone. At Silver today, I was approached by two somewhat strange people on the ice, neither of which were fishing, scouting the lake or sight-seeing. One I had serious vibes that he was up to no good, the o...

Re: Ice Reports 2013-2014
I've been ice fishing the lake for about 5 years and this is the smallest in size that I have ever seen them. Out of the 20 perch I took home, over half the fish were full of eggs. I released the majority of the fish back because there were so small. The small Perch remind me of Eloika Lake, that I...

Re: Ice Reports 2013-2014
North end of Silver 3-4" clear ice, open water over the 40' depths. Only caveat is it's dink city and that's the females, males are even smaller. I don't know what happened to this perch fishery; Sizes had improved 2 years ago, but it's back to tiny fish. Apex predators aren't doing their job cullin...

Re: Shimano Sahara, a REEL piece of CRAP!
I've two Sahara's for ice fishing and have not encountered this problem, but from Nate's post I was intrigued about the single-piece bail. Had to compare and take a look at my Symetre's to see the difference - never noticed it before, but will keep it in mind for future purchases.

Re: North Jetty & Long Beach - Try Again 2nd Trip
So, after the disappointing, no fishing, inaugural trip to Long Beach, we'd like to try again. One question: Anybody know where I can light a portable charcoal grill in the Ft. Canby/North Jetty area? I'm assuming there's picnic sites, but are portable charcoal grills allowed? Short of booking a cam...

Newbie Question Re: Catch Record Card
I've never utilized a catch record card (nor fished saltwater). Can someone please clarify one issue re: the catch record cards for me: Online and in the regulations manual, it states that you receive your first catch record card free with purchase of your license. Additional cards cost extra. When ...

@Fish-Freak23 - Thanks for the info. Would love to make a trip out April, but the better half has thus far vetoed it.
Anybody have any opinions on the "camping" near Long Beach? Less expensive (yet nice) digs vs the local motels?

Re: North Jetty & Long Beach - 1st Trip out
Thanks for the reply, Nate. Monday morning was 35-60mph winds and pounding rain, some light hail then finally snow. Terrible. Unfishable. Lost out on the 3-day fishing pass. Visited the north jetty though - neat place. North parking lot's closed till May, so it was a long hike from the farther parki...

Re: Razor Clam Openings
Missed the dig, but at least got to enjoy some fried razor clams at Ole Bob's down in Ilwaco. Saw a dead whale for the first time; It had been washed up on Long Beach for a few days - crazy. Weather Sun night/Mon AM was terrible - winds from 35-60mph. Power got knocked out on the peninsula for a per...

Re: Green lings?
In Portland I've seen live greenling go for $20/lb in restaurants. Live cabezon $15/lb. Too rich for my blood, but I'm gonna certainly try to catch some... Never eaten greenling or cabezon, but they look very tasty.

Re: Razor Clam Openings
Weather looks terrible, but the 3-day pass, Discover Pass and motel have been paid for and no refunds... So... off we go... we'll miss the razor clams, but maybe we'll get lucky and score some fish... during the eye of the storm...
