As far as I can tell, there were no herrings on the sabiki when the small salmons hit. The hooks are pretty small, #6 I believe. I'm going to get some Gamakatsu sabiki rigs and give them a try.
I have some size-6 sabiki rigs from amazon. I drop one in the middle of a giant ball of anchovies, and pulled up 3 little Chinook salmon instead. What am I doing wrong???

You can keep some species of rock fish in area 5, which is technically part of Puget Sound... But I doubt area 11 will open for rockfish anytime soon. I caught and released many copper rockfish in the are between Tacoma, Vashon Island, and Gig Harbor; but they were always very small. Never seen any ...
