Re: Frozen Steering Cable - How to Fix It?
I made a device to lube all the cables on my jet boat. I have 3 sizes of cables on it. I spun up a fitting in my lathe that adapts a air coupler to a section of vinyl tube sized to match the cable sheath. I clamp the tube to the sheath and fill the tube with a few oz of ATF. I plug the coupler into ...

Re: Downrigger weight shapes?
Phil, if you ever want to do the tubes, I'm in reardan and made myself a set, I can spin up another 3-4 with the materials I have. I noticed a giant benefit to the tubes on my fish finder.....way more transparent.

Re: fish finders
I have spent my life as a very successful fly fisherman, but with 5 kids now it's best we fish from a boat and we better be in fish. I was not doing very well at learning lake roosevelt, but adding the 7610 changed that. My better half forced me into the tr1 gold because I was crabby trying to run t...

Roosevelt is worth a try. If you don't hook a whisker face, you have a good chance at a bunch of other species.

Re: lake Roosevelt shore fishing
I would run to two rivers after dark and try fishing for burbot off the dock around 80fow.
For seven bays, I'd think a slip bobber set around 15 feet or a sinker floating a worm off the bottom as close to the pens as you can cast.

Larry, not sure if you have tr1 gold now, but if not, I would suggest running the wires for the compass now. The compass has to land front of center and away from electric sources in your boat. Mine sits under my rod locker. Once you get all the wires tidied up its not gonna be fun to do it over.

I dont have the panoptix as I only have a kicker and no bow mount. I have the gt50tm IIRC. it is a very big improvement over my old lowrance. I actually catch fish now.

Re: fish finders
one other thing about the 7610 that is really cool is that it is wifi compatible with up to 5 devices. I can have the same display and be in control of it from my phone or ipad anywhere around my boat. if you add tr1 into this it becomes super handy.

I have the garmin 7610 and last week I was able to watch my 3/4 oz jig bounce on the bottom and get grabbed by a burbot......pretty amazing piece of gear.

A bit late to this party...but, I have great luck by smoking for about 1/2 hour in my big chief. I don't use fillets, I run mine through a wunder boner before smoking. The flavor intensifys a bunch. I do the salt add because I'm chicken.

Re: Downrigger ball size
I just whipped up a new downrigger weight that should be transparent to my sounder. I've been using balls and fish, but I upgraded sounders and th ed new one sees my downrigger ball to strongly. I used a 1 5/8" stainless steel pipe 10" long and filled it with #8 lead shot. I tapered the ends to redu...

Re: Kokanee in Rock lake.
I would think rock would actually do much better than hayden as hayden has 100's of fishermen hit it on any day whereas rock may have 100 in a busy week.

I was on Roosevelt this weekend when the storm hit. I kicked on the vhf radio to the weather and suddenly they're telling me tof expect gusts to 80mph! It took us a bit to get cleaned up and travel ready. Within a few minutes the wind was constant mid 40's and gusting well over that. My boat is a 23...

Re: To sell, or not to sell
I am fishing a 23' hard top which is the replacement for my 18' walleye tournament style boat previously. I bought this because the prime time is always old and the family can stay warm and dry.......but it's a handful. I feel you pain, but I will fight the wind before going back....

Re: Mobile mechanic
A very simple test to find fuel issues is to use a propane weed burning torch, unlit of course. The fuel is pre atomized and the torch will idle even a 500" motor. If it won't start on propane.....it's timing, spark or compression related. Do use caution in an inboard as propane is heavy and will si...

If you end up needing more purchase than 5 he zip tie offers on your hatch, Google "nutsert" I have the tool and use it very rare, but it's designed to do exactly what you are doing.
