When you twist the line to put on the Chamberlin you can still see your line jerking prior to release.
I agree with hewesfisher no better release for lake fishing.

Pop gear - goes by a number of brand/model names. Cowbells & Ford Fenders come to mind. They are also refered to as lake trolls. You might need to do a little jerry rigging but you should be able to find water separators with glass bowls at a lot of heavy equipment suppliers. (it has been a little while since I have been in that business so maybe things have changed)

I haven't done any squidding from a boat, but would think if you go out by a pier outside of the pier fisherman casting area and dropped a light it would work out well for you
