Re: Winter glove recommendations??
Wool is tough to beat for warmth, and if it gets wet - it still works. I've been wearing what I call 'woolies' (100% wool gloves made without fingertips covered) when pursuing outdoor endeavors in the cold for nearly 40 years, and replace them every 5 years or so. I couldn't tell you the brand of an...

Re: Facebook salmon conservation group
I see this facebook page as being nothing other than a place where folks can hurl insults at each other, degrade tribal fishing and act like total jerks all from the anonymity of the key board. Most folks that engage in forums such as the one you are referring to have no idea there is a difference ...

Re: Wall mounted rod holder options, or DIY?
Out in my garage in a corner is a rather large planter that I stand rods up in. In a spare bedroom is a 6 gallon crock in a corner where I do the same. Some have reels seated, some don't. All that are 2 piece are kept together with twist ties until time to leave the house and go fishing. Pipe cleane...

Aside from what I've read as an armchair Muskie fisherman the past 35 years or so, I don't know squat about fishing for them.
That said - your fish is a PIG!
Nice job!
We should all be so lucky some day!!
Cheers!

Re: Puget Sound salmon season
Jd39 - you don't mention the size of your boat, or if glass / wood / aluminum. If not too large or heavy, a 2WD should be fine. Ramps can be a challenge for any rig depending on tide, algae and incline. Just be sure to use a lower gear pulling out, and pay attention to the tides as well as know your...

Re: Puget Sound salmon season
No fishing for me last week, had some plumbing and septic tank issues. I'm going to give the Hood Canal a try this coming Wednesday and if that goes well I will go out again on Friday. If anyone has any pointers for that area please share. Thanks The Canal is a pretty long stretch of water, broken ...

Re: Looking for a specific sort of rod...
Building a new rod, or modifying one with a new reel seat seems pretty inane, considering you could simply file away or grind down the added width on the foot of the reel to fit a contemporary rod - or do what most guys would do; get a couple of hose clamps and wrap with electrical tape. I have a Pe...

Re: Is it legal to use a crab snare on one pole and fish with another pole at the same time.
Seems we interpreted the OP's question differently.
I was under the impression he was asking if it was legal to use two rods, one for crabbing and another for fishing at the same time - and not how many units of crab gear he can use.

Re: Is it legal to use a crab snare on one pole and fish with another pole at the same time.
You'll find your answer in the regs on page 135. "GENERAL GEAR RULES: May be harvested by hand or dipnet. Hand operated instruments may not penetrate the shell. One star trap, one ring net, one castable snare , or one pot is considered one unit of gear. The maximum number of units of gear that may ...

Re: Puget Sound salmon season
I tried to buy some Old Goats on line. I filled in all the info and got down to the final point where said submit and it just seem to freeze up and didn't connect. I sent them an email. I buy a lot of fishing stuff on line and this is the first time I've had trouble. Maybe their website isn't worki...

Re: Buy Barbed or Barbless for salmon
I buy either, If barbed I go a step further and cut/grind off the barb. Are you certain that you aren't compromising the integrity of the metal? The hooks are likely heat forged, which may make them brittle, and subject to weakening if reintroduced to heat (grinding) in a less than a controlled env...

Re: Puget Sound salmon season
Not a bad call. July is a great month for Chinook in the sound IMHO, with resident Coho in the 2 - 3 lb range by the end of the month and putting on a pound or so a week well into September. I read in the Tacoma News Tribune about a month back in an article about Point Defiance boat launch parking, ...

Re: Lost Tennessean
First, you will need to closely review the regulations since they are complicated. Most of the fishing in the salt is with downriggers, which is a device that lowers/lifts a 10-15 pound lead ball down to anywhere from 40 feet to as much as 150 feet. The line is attached to the ball with a release c...

Re: Halibut Fishing and Halibut Care
To your general questions - 1 - Not sure there is a benefit to anchoring. Drifting over the halibut grounds seems to be the norm, removes the possibility of tangling in an anchor line and allows you to cover more ground. It is best to keep your motor running for a variety of reasons when in the salt...

American Lake is my sons and my go to lake for 'bows and kokes. We generally run two rods each when any combination of the three of us are out - one each on a downrigger for kokes and one on top for rainbows. Wedding ring spinners with tipped with pink Gulp Maggots on the DRs, and same spinner outfi...

Re: Trailers: Bunk v. Roller
I've had both and prefer bunks. Rollers do wear out over time, and if gone unnoticed can wreak havoc on the bottom of your boat when being trailered. I myself have been fortunate, but having looked at hundreds of boats over the years, it is one of the things I check for when considering one for purc...
