How to catch your limit on opening day
For years I've seen people fish the lowland opener and the few weeks following. While most people catch some fish, there are always people who struggle to catch their limit. I feel bad when I bring my boat back to the launch, and people ask how did I do. I don't want to tell his people who are excit...

2016 WDFW Spring Trout Plants
If you like fishing for trout, then odds are you've fished some of the lakes that the WDFW plants every spring. One thing I've learned over the years is if you want to get a fast limit, or catch & release dozens of fish (without using bait, of course), then targeting lakes which have more fish per a...

Re: winter lake washington perch
I fished Lk WA a couple weeks ago for perch. We focused on the east channel and found plenty in 60-70 feet of water. More information at http://gonefishingnw.com/winter-2016-la ... ing-report

I've written a free app which figures out speed and works for those slow trolling speeds. Right now it is available for windows phone - enjoy

Re: trout leaders
In my experience I'd say very little difference in bite for 4# floro vs 6# floro. I use Seagar too and usually 4# line. Rarely had it break - even with catching trout in the 3-5# range. Of course I don't tend to lift the fish with the line. Consider using a net if you are keeping the fish. If releas...

Backup lights for trailer
Hey guys, one of my projects to prep for fishing this year is installing a pair of backup lights on the trailer. I have everything I need, but can’t find 1 part. It is the L bracket to connect the light bracket to the fender. The light bracket is an Optronics BK70BB ( http://www.etrailer.com/Accesso...

Re: Cold water fishin'
Thanks for the tips. I'm looking to C&R, so I was hoping for some non-bait approaches. Maybe now that the weather has warmed up we'll see the lake water temp warm up, and hopefully my usual tactics will be effective again. If not I'll probably stick with larger lakes, like Lk WA, that don't cool dow...

Cold water fishin'
Usually in winter I mostly fish Lk Sammamish if going for trout, which works out OK, since it takes so long for it to cool down, the water remains in the 40s and the fish are still somewhat active. This last week I went with a friend to Beaver, and the water was COLD - 35deg, and some places on the ...

Re: Mobile App for fishing Lake Washington & Lake Sammamish
For a buck and a half I had to have but I sure dont see much anyting resembling a thermocline. Great question. If there is a thermocline or not, and how deep it is, depends on lake conditions. Now, in winter, there is no thermocline in those lakes because the water is too cold. Once the surface tem...

Re: Trolling speed ap for Droid?
All GPS devices I've used have trouble giving good values at low speeds (<1MPH). Given how consistent I've seen that I think it might be a limitation of GPS technology and not a particular device/software. I think it would also depend on how accurate a location fix you are getting, which depends on ...

Mobile App for fishing Lake Washington & Lake Sammamish
I've written an app that will help you catch more fish on Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish. It displays data from the weather bouys operated by King County. As the thermocline develops in fall, you can see where it is. Then set your gear to be that depth, and you are the right depth for catching f...

RE:Selective gear rules
Also, under selective gear rules, I believe you can't fish from a boat that is under power (in gear, eg trolling or side drifting with an outboard). Correct me if I'm wrong on this. I think you are wrong on that. Here is the except from the current regs. Doesn't mention anything about being under p...

Round vs low profile bait casting reels
I've always been a spinning reel guy, but as I've been getting more into salmon/steelhead I've noticed alot of guys using bait casting reels. One thing I've wondered is what is the difference between a round baitcasting reel & a low profile model. I've asked a couple of salesmen at some stores and t...

RE:Jet Divers And Similiar Products?
I got my downriggers (manual scottys) on craigslist for a decent price (I paid about half of the best retail price I found online). A trip to the hardware store and a couple hours later I had them mounted to my boat, and the've been great. Everyonce in a while I see a really good deal popping up on ...

I like what Mexico did. Japanese fishing now isn't allowed within 200 miles because they were responsible for deleting the fish populations.racfish wrote:govs give the Japanese and Chinese carte blanche on our fish.

RE:Where are all the Puget salmon going??
I heard from a guide that on the Snohomish system this year he was catching a fair number of coho jacks, but relatively few adults.
The theory as to why was commecial netting. The smaller fish can get through, but the large adults can't.
