I'm not surprised.Springer Jerry wrote:Wow I thought there would be a lot more opinions and insight on this thread. Still very helpful info to both new and old steelhead anglers.

Re: Wild Steelhead Handling and Release
Good information. I think wdfw should post the mortality rates. Though I doubt it will change many guides and anglers practices as it's really all about their glory shots. Also I agree with you springer on the fishing from a boat and in spawning water. I amazes me that there are some streams closed ...

Re: Fly Fishing for Steelhead
I'm a way's from you and seldom get that far north. However the setup you have is a good way to go. In fact starting with the single hand rod will in the long run likely be to your advantage. I would say get bright and dark patterns in both weighted and unweighted. You week be able to change your de...

Re: Rod and Reel
What do you consider a reasonable price? For under $200 you can pair a Pflueger President or Shimano Sahara to a Berkley IM8 or Okuma SST. There are other good pairings as well, but these are the more popular economical choices. The berkley/pfleuger combo is an excellent choice to start. Get the 9'...

Re: Fly Fishing for Steelhead
I chase them swinging a fly. For early season hatchery fish I like moderate size (1.5-3") on bright colors. Marabous, intruders, egg sucking leech, and various other home built stuff. Have some dark patterns too but I always like a hot spot or bit of contrast. Of course if you find a fish that will ...

Re: How to get a Cougar?
Cougar taste good. And im not talking about the kind you sickos are talking about in a bar ](*,) [biggrin] If I shot one id be glad to eat it, not just shoot it bc scared or otherwise. I think the above is a worthy view. Sorry if I offended anyone. Sometimes my humor doesn't translate well written....

Re: What was your biggest Muskie of 2014?
My best this year was a forty one inch on the fly. My buddy however came out for his first muskie trip with me and got a forty five inch fish that was girthy as heck on the fly. His first muskie. We called this fish "Scabby Lee Gifford" as she had a strange growth on her. Hit by a boat and infected ...

Re: Who returned my wallet?
There are basically 2 kinds of people in this country. There are givers, and there are takers. Duncan is obviously not the latter. We need more people like him around. Agreed, Duncan is a solid guy. I think he used to post here maybe still does. I like the guy. Eccentric, yes, passionate, yes, grea...

Re: Who returned my wallet?
This guy showed a lot of class returning that wallet. It might be nice to cut him a little slack and refrain from the insults. Not insulting the guy in the least. He is eccentric but I would count on him. In fact over the years of chance meetings I would count him among my friends. his toilet may b...

Re: Who returned my wallet?
Yeah but camo pants, smelling and looking like that. Duncan lives in a van and uses a bucket as a toilet. He also is constantly talking steelhead. I bet it was Duncan.

Re: Who returned my wallet?
I was eating BBQ at the Bus in Monroe and a guy walked up to me and asked how I did fishing and about my old driftboat I had trailered. He seemed nice enough but a little odd, missing teeth, wearing camo pants, smelled and looked like he had not showered in a few weeks. He mentioned he had been fis...

Re: How to get a Cougar?
I have to apologize weekend. I thought you were much older. I had no idea you were eighteen. I would have approached the situation with a different tact. Carry on, no hard feelings on my end nor should there be on yours.

Re: How to get a Cougar?
I'm with you weekend. It's probably stalking it's next human kill right now. I agree with you that having one around the house is not great but a game camera photo two miles away and we're already checking our shorts. Seems a little over the top. My mind is logical. I've dealt with them before and t...

Re: How to get a Cougar?
Thanks for your advice Hunter 757. Bigskyx I want to kill it also because if you shoot a cougar you save 50 elk. Ever think of that? Must not have. I know about cougars and how dangerous they are i just don't know how to hunt one EFFECTIVELY. This is the best post ever. It oozes expertise , knowled...

Re: How to get a Cougar?
Too right strider. I hear about attacks almost daily. Good thing the state is patrolled by obese men on four wheelers dressed in camo with big scary guns.. Those real men are a god send. I don't know what me and the other ladies would do without them. Likely perish. I hear all the real badass hunter...

Re: How to get a Cougar?
Well quad it looks like me and you are just a couple weak tree huggers. We don't have the moxy or testosterone to be hunting mountain lions like some of the real men out there defending us from fearsome predators. I mean just the idea of being in the same state as a cougar makes me shake with fear t...

Re: Poachers Busted
Obviously a couple domestic chickens are more vital than wild salmon and steelhead. Oh man and a pot pipe! String em up. Just some light duty poaching, awe just let it fly, no biggie. I mean wild steelhead populations in Washington are at four percent historical abundance, we can afford to lose a fe...

Re: Poachers Busted
Well in a related topic about poaching worth note, I bring an update. This is the story of young Colin and friend snagging their way around the Tahuya river. I am sure some of you are familiar and remember the story quire well. Here are the results of that bust. A little fine was paid and the state ...
