Early season trout or kokanee in SW Region
I spoke with Kokonuts last week and he saw a few boats on Merwin. Is anyone having any luck in the year round lakes, or are most of us still being forced to look at our boats in the garage everyday when we get home from work?

RE:Spawned Salmon..
This was a hot topic in a different forum I moderate. For example in WA it is legal to keep spawning kokanee, although as one warden mentioned he didn't know if anyone would keep a second after eating the first. The meat is mush, and if the fish haven't spawned yet it reduces the fry hatch for the n...

Great idea Don. The timing is tough with all the cut backs, but it is nice to see the support of a possible future initiative from the WDFW.

RE:need a new deer spot
Mossy, I put in four straight days in the 49 Degrees unit two weeks back and with the rain the only deer I saw were during slow walks. With the weather stand hunting proved futile. Overall I'll have to wait for next year. Tonight I was talking to a guy with acreage outside of Washougal and even down...

RE:Portable sonar
Thanks for the info everyone, and the hidden secret tip ;) I've been hintin' to the wife about the need for me to move into the modern sonar style of fishing, and anyone who's seen me on the water knows for now I am totally 'old school'.

If she was smart enough to get you a Cabela's gift card I'd say buy her an engagement ring, or at least some Wedding Ring spinners. Tell her it's the thought that counts. ;-)

RE:Countdown to Deer Season
I looked at the regs, but did not see anything specific about scents, minerals, and feed as bait. As for hunting by a feed/corn spreader I have no idea. You can always check with the Eastern WA DFW @ TeamSpokane@dfw.wa.gov. -For me it depends on my mood when I head out if I'll carry a 30-30 or '06. ...

My wife has been getting a kick out of me planning the annual Veteran's Day trip to the lodge. I'm just hopeful I can find last year's daddy.

Countdown to Deer Season
Well, the boat has been winterized, and now it's time to sight in the rifles. Anyone else getting the itch to chase some whitetails?

Nice photos physher. It's great to see and hear success stories of our youth from out in the field. The only birds I've ever hunted are turkeys, but I've got some friends who want to book a day at the Ridgefield game area. It looks like a wet, but fun adventure.

RE:Trailer Hook
I use trailer hooks on some of my kokanee gear tying two hooks spaced apart off of the main leader. The kokes are often hooked by the front hook, but the second is there to increase the chance of a hookset and to present bait behind the lure.

Portable sonar
I'm just curious to see what sonars people are using, and if anyone has comments about portable sonars and how well they work. My wife was asking about Xmas ideas and asked if I would want a fish finder. How well do the clamp on styles work? Do suction mount transducers stick to the transom at moder...

Loon Lake (30 min. north of Spokane) has Granite Pointe and Shore Acres who both rent boats. The lake has bass, perch, catfish, rainbows, browns, kokanee, and lakers.

RE:Cost of mounting/taxidermy fish
In 1997 I paid $12 and inch for a 15 lb. mackinaw. Around $450 total. Some costs are different by species and taxidermists, I've seen recent rates as high $18 an inch depending on the shop. This is why some of the big 'uns become dinner or are released. Some replicas are cheaper and paint the mold o...
