Survival Camping
Was out with a good friend who grew up in the area and we were talking about camping. He was telling me about camping as a kid and the only thing you brought with you was a fishing pole, a couple of knives, a pan, sleeping back, and various knick knacks. Basically, light travel camping with very lit...

Re: Ever seen a tackle box lying in the middle of a freeway?
I suppose having two tackle boxes makes sense. I already have one. I'm looking more for basic gear one should have. It's funny because I used to know exactly what I'm looking for but didn't know what the heck it was till I got to the fishing store. They were all thingamabobbers. I plan to do more tr...

Ever seen a tackle box lying in the middle of a freeway?
Yeah. That's where I'm at. Middle of I-5, roundabouts the Lakewood area. Bet you can still find some of my hooks lying on the side of the freeway. So I'm starting all over. I received my tacklebox a couple years back from my father when he passed. It was filled with YEARS of things he accumulated. I...

Re: Fishing for a pole..
I did! I ended up with the Okuma SST 8'6" and slapped on a Pfleuger President reel. Now I'm working on getting my tackle box together and finding me some waders, though I'm told it isn't necessary. (Just wanna play in the water.) I spun my line on last night and while it ain't pretty and I should ha...

Re: Fishing for a pole..
Thanks for all the tips! Looks like I'm gonna be setting myself up with an SST since it seems the majority favored pole out here. My old poles were over 30 years old and did the trick but they were all custom made by a man who is now dead so I'm figuring out the new fangled stuff. Off to the store I...

American Lake?
Anyone able to tell me if this is even worth fishing? I'm not fishing off a boat so I'm wondering if this is even worth pondering. I've seen the reports and I've had a couple friends who have fished off military post side, but I'll be on the other side and want to know if anyone has been around here...

Re: Fishing for a pole..
I'm going after rainbow trout.
Off the shore.
Spinning reel
Just lakes.
I plan to purchase more then one rod and reel over time and have been fly fishing as well, but those are a bit more of a splurge at the moment. I just want to get out to American Lake and have a little fun.

Fishing for a pole..
So I've been to Cabela's, Sportsman's Warehouse, and Dicks (yeah yeah, scoff about the last one.) and no one can give me sound advice. I have been fishing for years, but I've always used my late father's poles and tackle. Come last winter, the poles and tackle box I had in a friends trunk went caput...
