Re: What Are You Using To Filet Salmon On

In the field (on the boat) I use a rubber door mat that has little rubber nubs sticking up. Holds the fish in place, easy to sanitize, and doesn't dull my blade. At home I use the poly cutting boards, often with an old bath towel on the to deal with the slip and slime.

Re: Best Way to Store your Cured Eggs

Lots of options here and it depends somewhat on what type of cure it is. As far as a storage vessel, my preference is a one quart wide mouth jar. After the eggs go in, I vacuum the lid on with my Foodsaver machine. The vacuum isn't a must but I have noticed longer life and fewer issues by doing it. ...

Re: October 5th 2013 Snohomish/Skykomish riverside clean up

It sounds like we've got the Snoho covered but is anyone going to be up on the Sky? I was planning to hit up higher up(Sultan - Ben Howard, Lewis - Tualco, etc.) because there are some heavily fished and trashed out areas up there. But there is no way I can hit a section on my drift boat and make it...

Re: Skykomish River Twitchin Jigs

While there is no single correct answer on this, Pink, Purple, and Cerise are three good colors to start with. Combo colors are good too. Pink/white, purple/black, pink/purple, etc. Experiment and have fun. You can also save a lot of money and time by just making a bunch of hoochie jigs. You can pro...

Re: steelhead or coho rod

I use most of my Steelhead rods for coho as well, which are mostly moderate action (for spinners, spoons, floats, etc.). The only exception is that I like a shorter and slightly stiffer rod for twitching jigs for coho. I like to have some more backbone for pulling coho out of the timber and other sn...

Re: Firm eggs

You are right on with using Fire Cure for fall fish, it's great stuff. Nate's giving you good advice there too. Here's a good video by Duane Inglin on using Fire Cure. I have used this method (with the occasional twist) for years and it's been great. This is a great starting point on the fundamental...

2013 Humpy Fishing Bloopers and Blunders

OK guys and gals, we've had several weeks of nonstop humpy action. Not only are the regulars out there, but as always this season brings out the odd-year fishermen and women. With all that excitement, there is always a steady supply of goofs a gaffes up and down the river. So what are some of the mo...

Re: Fish with bumps and open sores?

What I've been told before is that it is some kind of parasite that tends to become more of an issue as waters warm in summer. I suppose I could find more info by Googling it, but I never have. I caught several trout like this years ago on Fish Lake over by Leavenworth. I tossed them all back. Gross...

Upper 30s King for fresh water. In the salt, it was a salmon shark. Both in AK. In WA, low 30s King.

Only as fast as I can row down stream... Actually, with the 80lb thrust riptide on it, my Clack can get up and move pretty good on the lakes.

I'll be there, plus 2 at least. Happy to go on foot or I can bring the drift boat and hit areas that cannot be reached from shore. Sent an email to several fishing friends/coworkers about it too so I should have more volunteers soon.

Re: Cedar River

I used to live close to the Landsburg bridge and would fish it quite often. I found that early mornings and late evenings were best this time of year. You get much more forgiveness from the weary trout. I would often park at the bridge, walk as far as I felt like down the river trail and fish my way...

Re: Naches river

Naches and Little Naches are great rivers. Gear is pretty straight forward. Light rod, light tippet. Standard flies like Caddis, adams, small naturals, etc. Nothing too big. Those fish are aggressive this time of year. They are also easily spooked with the low clear water but it's a blast to spot an...

Re: Stream side clean up day

I'll be there. I've done a few clean-upson the Yakima in years past and it's a blast. We've had teams on bank and boat so we could get to as much as possible. Count me in and a few others that I'll bring with me.

Re: refloating tired braid

If it's for a float line, I would just re-spool with some new stuff. Or like others have said, hit it with fly line floatant. Won't last too long, but it works. If you are using this line for throwing spinners, spoons, or twitching jigs, I prefer a braid that has a few seasons on it. A three year ol...

Re: New fishing regulation proposal for guides

I just read through the new bill. I'm not a fan of overregulating business, but dictating some basic safety and liability measures is a good idea. One item stood out however that maybe some of you could shed some light on. In section 3 (2) it says "No individual may hold more than one food fish guid...
