Re: satsop river smallmouth bass
Don't panic! Don't panic! Because I had no one to take a picture, I put it in my livewell and brought it to the boat launch. After the photo and scale sample it was released alive and kicking. I am die-hard catch and release. If I want a wall-mount, I buy a replica, which I have two of hanging on th...

Re: satsop river smallmouth bass
I have received 4 emails from the WDFW so far. in addition to the bass in the fish trap, 4 Bluegills were caught to that year. from some lake or pond upstream? it was a high water year they say. another report came of a largemouth about 15 years ago in the Satsop being caught and another was seen. ...

Re: satsop river smallmouth bass
Interesting report. I never could understand why smallmouth would be in the rivers of Eastern Washington, but not in Western Washington rivers. Heck, maybe they are. As far as the trout, maybe he did catch a Brook Trout. But I lean more toward it possibly being a Dolly Varden, which the novice might...

Re: swimbaits-the most promising yet most frustrating
Maybe your bass are wimps, but my East Washington bass are not. I have hammered bass over here on Swim Baits over 6 inches, both hard and soft swim baits. Heck, I have caught Rainbow and Brown Trout over here on Swim Baits up to 5 inches. Like anything else, if you fish a perfect lure in a swimming...

Re: Google Earth view of Lake Tapps at low water
That was some cool information I didn't even know I could do. I fish Lake Tapps a lot, and that 2005 photo showed me a couple under water ridges I didn't even know about. It also showed me why there are places I consistantly do well. Anyway, thanks for the information. I have already passed in on to...

Re: swimbaits-the most promising yet most frustrating
I haven't caught a fish on them. But I only threw one 3 to 6 times last year, and by 'times' I mean 3-6 CASTS, and 3 of those casts was just to watch what it does. This year I've thrown it a couple casts. But I plan on concentrating on the swim bait and the jerk bait this year. I wish I could have ...

Re: 2014 Lake Tapps / Spanaway Lake Boat Launch Pass
Right now they are not charging at North Park on Lake Tapps. And from what I've seen in past years, usually the toll booth isn't even set up until somewhere close to the Memorial Day weekend. Of course that can change at any time.

swimbaits-the most promising yet most frustrating
I own three plastic swimbait molds, 2 1/2 inch, 3 1/2 inch, and a 4 1/2 inch. I have did well with the 2 1/2 inch on my dropshot. But the other two have caught me exactly 3 fish over a three year period. Two smallmouth, and one tiger muskie. That's it! Never have I seen a lure in the water that look...

Re: a good drop shot trick
It's not a new trick, but a good one. However because I fish rip rap 99% of the time I drop shot, I can lose 3-5 weights in a 15-minute time span. That would be too costly. :-({|= I don't even use "drop shot" weights anymore. That too is costly. I now use pencil lead because it's far more economica...

Re: Making My Own Spin Shot Hooks
Sounds cool! Got pics? You can go on YouTube and type in "spin shot dropshot" and the manufacturer's product is shown, along with commentary by a couple pro anglers. You can also see how simple it would be to make them yourself. I made a misprint in my first post. It is not 77 mm steel wire. It is ...

Making My Own Spin Shot Hooks
I recently wrote about a new hook given to me by a manufacturer called a Stand Out Hook. Since then I took an interest in a new drop shot set up called a Spin Shot, which is a small piece of wire, a loop on each end, and the hook hanging in the middle. I think this might be the ticket. Like the Stan...

Re: Has Anybody Tried the "Stand Out Hook?"
One thing they said that I don't agree with is when the guy said that you need to use a sweep hook set and so the hook ends up in the corner of the mouth. Well that can allow the hook to 'bend' over the corner/hinge of the mouth and pop the barb out and so the hook can come out. I've had enough of ...

Re: Has Anybody Tried the "Stand Out Hook?"
I did find another piece of advice on YouTube. When using the Stand Out Hook they recommend not setting the hook, but rather use a sweeping motion or simply start reeling. Same advice they give for using a circle hook.

Has Anybody Tried the "Stand Out Hook?"
Having read some of the bass fishing articles I've had published, a tackle manufacturer in Wisconsin sent me several different lures and plastics to try. He only ask if I would send him an email on the results using them in different situations and tactics. But one of the things he sent me were hook...

Re: Another bad day at the Kapowsin Lake boat launch
Had a similar experience to Rickydbasser, and yeah, you better resolve what is worth life and death before pulling a gun. Never have seen an object worth a death. Mine experience sort of simpler, the guy was intending to kill, not steal. Thank God I've never had to use deadly force with a human. I ...

Sports Cams For Fishing
Last spring I purchased an inexpensive sports cam from EBay to record some of my bass fishing trips. I know, to most people seeing videos of me catching fish ranks right up there with seeing someone elses family vacation videos. But I kind of get a kick out of watching them during the winter months,...

Re: Perch in Pierce County Lakes
American Lake is my first pick. And there is a couple reasons. One, there is an excellent population of perch, with 10 to 14 inches being common. The other reason is American Lake is very clear and clean water, making for great tasting filets. Sometimes in heavily silted waters, the fish can take on...
