RE:Kayak Fishing on Tapps
Thanks for the replies, Hey Todd, I do remember hitting the lake with you and hopefully some of the good tips you showed me. Since I want to hit the water so early, I would feel I was imposing on anyone I know by asking that I come dragging a kayak around their house while they are still sleeping. I...

Kayak Fishing on Tapps
I recently purchased a couple of fishing Kayaks and want to start hitting Tapps on the weekend mornings as I live about a mile from the west side of the lake. What is the best option for launching Kayaks there? I seem to remember from a few years ago that one of the public parks opened their gates e...

RE:biggest fish of my life caught 6-22-08
Great Story .... I think it just gave you a taste of fishing for big Sturgeon. Have you thought of hitting the Columbia? Soon you won't be calling them "Large Fish" as "Monsters" will seem more appropriate.

RE:Kayak, Float Tube, Or Pontoon Boat
My vote would go towards the pontoon boat. I went with a 9' Outcast model as I wanted a weight rating to easily accommodate my 200 pounds plus gear. I like the fact that I can easily kick myself around at slower trolling speeds keeping my hands free "bought a pole holder" to do other things. I have ...

RE:Columbia Cats
Cut Shad and Smelt are used a good bit below the dam, depending what is in the river spawning. I would think anything that is dead and floating down river would be on the catfish menu. I spend a good amount of time out with guides each year below Bonneville and have yet heard of any bring up catfish...

Sturgeon Ball .... Fish-0-Plenty
I guess this is kind of a re-post as a search showed someone mentioned this in the off-topic section. They did not have a link to the article itself though. I also figured people visiting the River section of the forum would find it a good read Sturgeon Ball from Oregon Paper To summarize, last Feb ...

RE:Mono for mooching/downrigger reel
From the boat, I use #20 max for salmon. You have the advantage in a boat as you can chase the fish if needed if you should hook into something really large.

RE:Whoops!
One of my best experiences ever was the first time I went out with a friend in his boat bottom fishing.... I was pulling up a small, maybe 12" long Ling and expressed my disappointment as soon it was close enough to the surface to see it's size. My friend told me to give it some slack, allowing it t...

I bit early in the year to decide the annual results. We hit the Astoria area a good bit last year and did very well. Guides I talked to also said it had been a good year.

I have also found that I have my best luck with the wedge head Shad Darts fishing from both Oregon and Washington banks. http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:wD3WaKHAi5k9DM:http://fishermanshack.net/mcart/images/drift_lures/thumb_shad_dart_jigs.jpg I rig up almost identical to what Shad_Eating_Grin n...

RE:Charter boat for tuna???
There are a good number of boats that launch out of the Westport area. You will want to call and reserve ASAP as many people reserve months ahead of time to get a spot on the Tuna runs. I think almost all of the prime dates are filled with most charters, or one or two spots might be open at best. So...

RE:How to keep your fly dry?
As Marc suggested, there are a variety of treatments out there that you apply to the fly every handfull of casts to keep the fly from sinking. Just as there are treatments you apply to allow sinking flies to sink better.

I was wondering if there is a difference between Surf Perch / Rosetail Perch and "Sea Perch"
I found this link which has a good bit of info on them.

RE:Spin N Glow
When targeting Steelheads, I have often hooked up with Silvers and Kings on spin and glows. NEVER throw out lures if they are in good shape, even if they might be designed for a fish you have no intention of going for. Years ago I had an uncle pass and he left me several boxes filled with hundreds o...

RE:Fillet knife
I picked up a Gerber Gator Fillet knife that I have been very happy with. What sets it apart from others I saw in it's price range was not only the Gerver name, but the sheaths built in ceramic sharpener. Very convenient to always have a sharpener close by. Found it at SportCo for around 13 bucks. h...

RE:42" out of Newman
WOW ... what a way to start a workday  You should look into some of the stronger snap swivels. I have found these to be about the strongest and they are very streamline so nothing sticking out to hang up or cause tangles. I think they are called Scissor Snaps http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yi...

RE:Boat Rentals?
Several years ago I was in the same boat "or should I say not, since I didn't own one" I just wanted to get 3 nephews out on the water to catch fish. No real need to keep and eat, but just see the look in their eyes when they reeled something in. I started our "Trash Fish Derby" Sorry if this is not...

RE:New fly rod
Kind of a side story about being given an old rod by grandparents. I was in a sporting goods store in Colorado a few years back and could not help but overhear a conversation going on at the counter. A young guy came in saying he needed to buy some fly line for a rod his Grandpa just gave him. The s...

I have sent my whole life using and working on outboards. I am a boat/yacht claims adjuster, and was a certified Merc outboard tech, and turn wrenchs to pay for college. I know this is going to be the dumbest question you have ever been asked but you sound very qualified so I thought to ask.... I s...
