RE:Baitcasters
I found that if I spooled heavy thick line on and then practiced out on the parking strip it worked well. With the heavy stiff line when it does birdnest it is fairly easy to straighten out and continue to practice. Then move on to the line that you would normally use.

RE:CALLING ALL ANGLERS Help make reporting of lost gillnets MANDATORY!
Easy to enforce. If the gill netter wants a new net, bring in the old one to recycle or show documentation that it has been declared/reported lost and where. One or the other or you don't get a new net.

Need a new depth finder
It's time to replace the inexpensive failing depth finder. I've been looking at the Lowrance Mark 5X DSI Down Scan Imaging Sonar. It sells for about $300. Does anyone have experience with this unit or have better suggestions? Thanks

RE:Green, white, carbon and the upper puyallup Rivers closing!
I can't speak about the Green but I think the Puyallup/Carbon should be closed to all fishing for several years to all Sport and Tribal fishing to let the runs rebuild. The ecosystem and the riverbed need to be repaired so that everytime we have high water the river doesn't scour out what few eggs t...

RE:Where are all the Puget salmon going??
Thank you all for the imput. Lots of good conversation. Thoughts from all sides of the fence, bad year, normal year and great year. For my part I fish the Puyallup most of the time and in years past have never had trouble finding and hooking fish. This year nothing on the punch card. I have not been...

RE:Where are all the Puget salmon going??
This news report is about Issaquah creek but this is not just an Isssaquah creek issue. Look at the fish counts at the Puyallup, Cedar and Nisqually hatchery's and the reason for closing the seasons this year on those and associated waters. The historic numbers are not returning and the current retu...

Where are all the Puget salmon going?? Attached is the path to the latest bad news report of Coho not making it back to their home hatchery. This time it is Issaquah Creek. Is Puget Sound and it':-({|= s rivers dying? Low returns to Nisqually (Coho closed), Puyallup (few Kings returned and Coho clos...

The weed itself may not any stronger then it was in the 60's. It is what is added to it after the harvest. Even in it's pure state it has long lasting effects on personality when abused as I witnessed in the early 70's while in college. I'm not for or agianst legalization but oppose the thought of m...

RE:what opinions do you have on rod building? worth it or not?
I have built a couple. You are right in many cases you can buy an equivelent rod for less sometimes a lot less. I think the best part of building yourself is being able to make it your own. Pick the eyes, reel seat, cork and thread color. Also there is a lot to be said for the satisfaction of catchi...

RE:Minter Creek!!!
During the week is not as crowded. It can be a real combat fishery. Get there at the top of high tide and as the tide drops move your way down to where the creek makes a hard left turn. There is a deep hole there that the fish hold in until the next high tide to move up. The idea is to move down as ...

If you decide on fiberglass my vote would be Arima. I have the 16ft Sea Chaser with a 75 hp Honda. More then enough power. Capable of doing the water at Sekeu and Neah bay and still at home on the local lakes. I pulled it for several years with a Chevy S10 4.3 leter with no problem. Arima is a good ...

RE:And now the Puke is closing
As fisherman would we be required to start an initiative to ban gill nets or setup some sort of selective fishery? What is needed to to be done. Visit the Coastal Concervancy Association (CCA) web sight. It is an East coast organization that got the nets out of the water on the east coast and is now...

RE:And now the Puke is closing
The indians do have the right to the fish they produce (Note that they get the eggs from the states voughts creek hatchery). They need to use fish traps or sain nets and selectively harvest hatchery fish from them or harvest at their hatchery gate where there is no dought where the fish originated.

RE:And now the Puke is closing
Too little Too late. The rivers have had major flooding the last 3 - 5 years. Natural spon and eggs have been scoured out and flushed from the river. The hatchery has been flooded and lost eggs and fingerlings multiple times. From the time the fish make it back to the coast and start to head inland ...

RE:Where ARE all the fish?
The fish count at the Puyallup River hatchery (Voights Creek) is 160 Kings. The expected return was 8,970. My guess is they opened the river earlier this year because they knew there weren't many fish coming back and to give fisherman a shot at what there were. Same as was done on the Elliott Bay Ki...

RE:Poor man's downrigger?
That would be called a meat line. A pole about 6 ft long with a tip about as big around as your finger and a 3 in pully on the end a reel the looks like a giant fly reel or wench and a 10 lb. window weight to take the wire line down. They used to hook the flasher and plug directly to the set up. Bef...
