Re: What rods?
I cast a Cabela's Cahill yesterday that came with everything- reel, line, leader, and rod, for $60. I'd buy that if it were me.

Fly Fishing Merit Badge
I went to a major boy scout jamboree this week with 2,100 scouts. The usual merit badge counselor had to go to court (lawyer jokes aside, he's an attorney not a criminal). I was able to pinch hit with another guy, Ed Padilla, who did a great job on short notice. We got 4 boys to completion. The only...

I dont't think I could do anything in that boat without doing "VROOM" noises. That is an awesome rig.

Re: What rods?
I've cast a bunch of rods around that price, and the eagle claw were the worst. They had less spine than an old 1970's shakespear 4wt. Slow, heavy, dull. If I had one, I'd put it on my wall for decorative purposes, and use a willow with duct taped ferrules. No offense.

Fun Foam Frog Fly (cool alliteration)
I had a blast with my middle son, finally catching fish. We caught 12 large mouths between us and a mess of sun fish and bluegill. We caught all but one the bass on a foam frog fly with posted marabou legs so they stuck out 90 degrees to the side and kicked when stripped. Fun top water takes. Lots o...

Re: What rods?
I know it's not glamorous, but I tried out the Cortland 2 piece, 5wt rod at Walmart. It casts nice. It has a nice medium action. The one I own is the 4pc 5-6wt Scientific Anglers that was also offered by Walmart. I've compared it to some of the more expensive rods, and I find that it catches fish to...

Agony and Ecstacy
Went fishing in the rain today on a private, flyfishing only lake. Cold, wet, miserable and cold. I still can't feel my fingers while I'm typing this. Broke my personal best for largest (non-carp) fish several times over. Fished the first five hours and only caught one when I thought I'd try somethi...

Cost of trailer registration.
I'm knocking around the idea of getting a 12' to 14' aluminum with 9.9hp motor. The only cost should be the trailer. I've tried several times to find out how much it will cost to register and get plates here in Spokane, but I keep going in circles on the state website. Anyone have a good guess?

Thanks again. I'm having a great time. Those blue iridescent neck feathers are awesome for little soft hackles.

Re: Swede's Fly Shop? A retraction.
I have to retract my previous statement. I went back to the store today because business took me a couple of blocks away. This time I got lots of 1 to 1 time. He (I'm assuming it was Stan) was generous with his time and knowledge. I was inspired to crack open my hermetically sealed wallet (it makes ...

Re: Stolen Boat
Still watching out. Every time I see a Boston Whalers for sale here in Spokane, I think of your boat. None of them are the right year or length though. I just wanted to remind everyone to keep their eyes open.

Re: What Fly?
Good point Zen. I forgot about a time I sat in my pontoon just watching the damsel fly larvae all around me. I didn't have a good pattern at the time, and I didn't have much luck with an olive bugger.

Re: What Fly?
I've had good luck with bionic worms - with an orange bead. When I can't stand staring at a bobber, I'll use a bead head prince nymphs. Those are the two that I've done best with.

Re: Newbie
I fished up on the Cd A about three weeks ago. I took my sinking line and weight. I left my floatant at home. I saw no action until my buddy saw fish sipping emergers and adults. We had great action on dry flies in the middle of February. My point is, just about the time you think the fish are all g...

Re: Crappie Flies
Normally I would say yellow, black, and whites with soft hackles and bead heads, but I caught 60 crappie on Liberty Lake a while back on a size 12, brass beaded, olive bugger. I think it looked like a damsel fly larva to them possibly. My biggest crappie, 15+ inches, I caught on a yellow tailed, bla...

Glad you weren't near it. I get the willies just thinking what that would be like to have that much lead spill on a person.
