Spokane's General Store Fishing Event

One of my favorite places in Spokane to gear up for fishing season is the General Store on Spokane Valley. A longtime favorite of many sportsman, The General Store is exactly that. They’ve got everything from auto parts to toasters, and a very respectable Sporting Goods section.
I stopped in the other day and ran into General Manager Jon Evans. I asked him if they were going to have a “fishing gear” sale anytime soon. It turns out, they’ve got the mother of all fishing sales planned for this weekend at the Spokane Valley Ace Hardware & Sporting Goods.
The General Store opened the new location in 2013. In May of 2014, they added over 5000 square feet of floor space, just for Sporting Goods.

Camping, fishing, probably the best knife selection around.”
This Thursday is the Argonne store’s Sporting Goods “kick-off” according to Evans. The General Store on Division has been having blowout party style sales for years. Evans plans for big crowds at the new Argonne store for its First Annual Fishing Sale.
“We’ve got free hot dogs and music from noon to two on Saturday. Everything’s going to be on sale! We’ve got prizes like Seahawk picnic tables, and other cool stuff. We’ve got fishing speakers lined up. It’s going to be a good time,” Evans said.
One of those speakers is The General Store resident fishing expert Mike Bowman. Bowman has been with the General Store for over 5 years. Regulars look for the “Mikes pick” tags in the store for his recommendations. Bowman plans to talk about knots.
“We’ll be talking knots and fishing line,” he said with a grin. “Why knots work and why they fail. What makes a knot fail? When you get older or even when it’s just cold, you need a knot that’s easier to tie and won’t fail.”
Bowman has worked out a few knots to tackle some tough challenges for anglers. Including knots for braided line, and mono-leader to braided line knots. He tells me the secret of these knots is just for The General Store patrons.
“I’m not giving these out to any other sources,” he said. “The line is 100% straight and compact when there all done.”
Besides great deals on tackle, lures (many for just a $1), and Rod and Reel combos, propane will be just $1.49/gallon during the sale. The address is 1330 N. Argonne, Spokane Valley.
“You’ll be able to get everything you need to outfit for the fishing season, at sale prices, all this weekend at our Argonne store!” Jon Evans said.
