We hit the water at the break of dawn, our poles in our hands hoping nothing goes wrong. The morning is clear the wind slightly blowing, searching for Bass,..but really not knowing.
Could they be here, or there, hours spent searching, tossing our baits but not knowing for certain.
We hit the pads and around all the stuctures, casting our frogs our worms and creatures that lack luster.
Trolling our boat to and fro, we stop by some docks cause we think that we know.
"This must be the place" where the Bucketmouth sleeps, where he hunts and ambushes
his prey, so to speak.
"Time to go at it Texas-Rig Style", not knowing for sure that all the while,..that Lunker is
watching us get our rigs ready and he knows that the worm that we toss isn't steady.
A real meal he longs for and waits,..then the baitfish arrive,..so now he takes.
He's a Biggun this Bass from under the dock,..just a matter of time till he is stopped.
We keep throwing our worm and wiggle it slowly,..he sees it now with his eyes widely growing.
The Bucketmouth swims to the worm and looks. That worm we threw has got him spooked.
I think mad is the word that best describes,..how that Lunker feels deep inside.
3X's 4X's 5X's and more,..again and again that worm hits the shore,..then finds its way back to his place under cover, now he's really mad but he's about to discover, what a sharp offset hook feels like deep in his mouth as he swallows that worm I tug as I shout,.."FISH-ON,..as we fight to the finish,..it's tug of war now,..but his strength is replenished.
He dives for the docks swimming around the big poles, trying to break off that line that has hold.
The Bass starts to fade, tired and sore, as I reel up the slack and get him aboard. The time has come, this battle he's lost, his picture is taken with my thumb in his jaws.
He's a fatty for sure and pretty long too, but it's back in the water without futher adoo.
This Bass will live to fight another day, but one thing for sure I can honestly say, that this fish made my day.
I shall be back, with my pole in my hand and I'll cut him no slack, and if by chance I should catch him again,..well,..let's just say that I made a friend!
