Thought trout season was over? Well guess again with our unseasonably cooler weather trout fishing has been good all over the western half of Washington and Lake Ki is no exception. This small Snohomish County Lake is still kicking out 3, 4, and even 5-pound hold over Bow’s every weekend.
Although only 98 acres it’s crystal clear water reaches depths of 70 feet and keeps the water cooler and fish friendly down deeper. This lake is perfect for your 12’ car-topper boat and an electric motor. Gas motors are still permitted on this little beauty but for the most part you will see electric motors used here.
Although I hate to admit it the secret to success on this lake is Power-Bait, that’s right Power-Bait. The color of choice is green and yellow trolled very, very slowly with a ½ oz. banana weight and about three feet of leader with a size 4 hook and your green and yellow bait. This set-up worked very slowly gets it down where the big boys stay and more important gets results.
The best time to work this lake is before and after the sun hit’s the water but if you’re out there during the heat of the day troll right down the middle of the lake. For you still fisherman go about 80 yards directly out from the Lake Ki Resort docks. Bank angling is very limited but for a small fee of $5.50 you can get a day use permit from the Resort and fish off of the docks.
Other methods used here are a clear bobber and fly set-up tossed from the docks or try dragging a fly dabbed with a little scent, again yellow and green even black woolley buggers seem to be your best choices here.
Boat launches are located the north end of the lake but trailered boats are not recommended as this launch is on a very busy road, I guess that’s where the name suicide corner comes from. There is also a boat ramp at the resort but once again car-toppers are recommended, as this is a shallow launch.
Lake Ki is located just north of Everett. Take I-5 to the Wenberg State Park exit and head west on Hwy 531/Lakewood Road. Follow it to the first stop sign; take another right and follow it to the resort. For more information call Lake Ki resort 360-652-0619.
So until next time may the fish at the end of your line be the one of your dreams.
