Product Review - drift weights

by Uncle Wes, January 23, 2006

Every year I see new products introduced to the market and it seems they are designed more at catching fisherman than fish, so you can only imagine the excitement I feel when a very good product is introduced. This product has been in the works with field and patent research for more than a year. This product is so simple in design but so very effective and I believe it will have a very big impact and change the way we all drift fish. This product has been field tested and praised by the pros. This product is patent pending and is the pride and joy of Paul Randall and David Blankenchip both of Anacortes and the owners of Dead Fish Tackle Company. Now these two guys do everything from production, painting, packaging, and marketing.

I know your saying enough already, what is this product? They are called drift weights; they are shaped like corkies and made of lead. They come in two sizes 1/8 oz. and ¼ oz., three per package at a cost of around $2.25. They are available in three fish attracting colors, cerise, day glo-chartreuse, and day glo-flame stay tuned because they will be introducing new colors and weight sizes in the future. The set-up to use these is very simple, on the main line attach your bobber stop, then your bobber or float, swivel, then slide your drift weight down your leader until it comes in contact with your hook, this works well with all kinds of bait from eggs, shrimp, night crawlers, pink worms and etc. The colors on these drift weights are just another great attractant to draw a strike. Another great advantage that this drift weight brings is that it sinks at the rate of about two feet per second and keeps the bait down in the strike zone. Another bonus to this type of set-up is that you don’t get snagged up, if you do just adjust your bobber accordingly, now keep in mind that this set-up is also a vertical drift instead of a horizontal drift and allows for a better hook set.

I honestly believe that if you want to land more steelhead than you lose after a hook-up you will consider this product and set-up. This product is available in many area stores such as Yeagers in Bellingham, Holiday Sports in Burlington, Northern Sales in Mount Vernon, Sports and More in Sedro Woolley, Concrete True Value and Loggers Landing in Concrete, and Rockport Texaco in Rockport just to name a few. If you would like more information on drift weights you can go to there website http://www.dedfish.com and check it out or even drop them an e-mail they are always happy to answer your questions. I want to congratulate Paul and David on their new product and wish them the best of luck. So until next time may the fish at the end of your line be the one of your dreams.

I don't go fishing for the scenery, its just a side benefit.
