The 270 acre lake is located about eight miles up Mill Creek Road which heads south from Highway 38 at a point 13 miles east of Reedsport. Although heavily planted with rainbow trout and harboring a few native cutthroats, Loon offers excellent fishing for good-sized largemouths and bluegills and fair fishing for white crappies and brown
bullheads. Has produced several bass weighing at least ten pounds and is probably the best spot in western Oregon to catch seven inch bluegills. Some of the crappies reach lunker sizes, but they are not much pursued. Most of the brown bullheads are caught from the upper end of the lake near where Lake Creek enters. Many anglers are turned off by the heavy recreational boating use during the late spring and summer months, but it doesn't seem to bother the fishing that much. One BLM and two private campgrounds are on the lake.
