More commonly referred to as LAKE MARIE, this six acre lake receives lots of recreational usage, but not much fishing pressure except immediately after one of its heavy trout plantings. Located within the Umpqua Lighthouse State Park about a mile south of Winchester Bay and entirely surrounded by a good footpath, Marie offers anglers a chance at yellow perch and largemouth bass in addition to the planted trout. Black crappies, smallmouth bass and bluegills have also been reported. The bass average less than ten inches in length, but there are bass to more than six pounds in the lake that usually hang around the marshy end of the lake opposite where the small outlet stream leaves the lake. There are a few small ponds on the outlet creek that occasionally end up with some bass or trout in the them. P Heley
